When it comes to harassment against an unpopular person, some people go above and beyond, for free. Just think of your typical high-school bully. 👍 Thanks for the Marina Abramović piece, a real eye opener, she let down all her boundaries to become vulnerable to the crowd, quite a profound brave artistic statement and experiment. Certainly emphasises why we must keep our personal boundaries in place to prevent the malevolent nature in society from becoming the dominant force over us. Interestingly they described “a protective group began to define itself in the audience”, underlining there are still people who will not just observe evil but will take action against it when it appears, but not always.
The case of Lynndie England in the Abu Ghraib case was chilling, closely resembling the ‘Stanford prison experiment’, she was truly manipulated by her superiors, although not free from blame, she still tries to come to terms with the events she was involved in, she was in a particular situation that prevented her from making the correct moral choices, she was so naive she was unable to think clear enough to counter the system she was in and so blindly followed the orders given by the psychopaths in command.
Blindly following orders from authoritative figures should always be challenged, however certain circumstance seem to prevent some personalities overriding the correct moral choice and so commit the atrocities they do because they were devoid of accountability owing to they were just following ‘superior orders’. You can still see that Lynndie England is still under the illusion of the power of authority and its ability to control the mind and will of anyone.
Similar to the lecture J P Peterson gave about the uncomfortable reality of the innate capacity for evil in all of us and that there is a very fine line between becoming a monster over our humanity. Could we have been so influenced as to be a guard in Auschwitz under the given set of circumstance and zeitgeist of the era? It seems we can point the finger and say ‘never me’, but it is not so black and white and shows the vulnerability of the mind to outside influence and the power that corrupt authority has over society.
nb. If only we were taught more about the Categorical imperative perhaps less of these horrors would be actualised and the choices in ethical and moral decision making would become the revolution of mind that we need to transform society for the better, rather than be led blindly into the Machiavellian narcissistic hell they are creating.
I think to some degree we all experiment with our reality to find where we sit in the framework of the universe, the consequences of our decisions teaches us all how we should build our own future and the societies we are to live in, our choices are consequential actions that mould our future, we are bound together by these historical decisions shaped by an array of external influences whether we realise this or not.

This is a very well executed answer. However it provides little positive insight into overcoming. Hopefully we can all find a direction toward happiness and quality of life, knowledge is powerful and knowing a possible formula or chain of events provides an opportunity to react and break that cycle. When reviewing these posts and evaluating the quality level of these ground level perpetrators, they appear to make a lot of mistakes. They are described as easily influenced, gullible, uneducated, and impressionable. Easily manipulated. They use children. Why not set up your own system of retaliation and recourse, based upon the steps outlined in this post. Share your solutions with the online community.
