3 Ways Parents Can Encourage Their Aspiring Scientists

As my daughter, a high school senior, prepares for the next steps in her life, I’m noticing how my role in her life is changing as well. Now that she’s signed up for the SAT and is thinking through her college choices, I’m acting more like a life coach than a boss. I wish I could slow things down, but I can’t—so instead, I try to savor all the rare moments we have together as she develops her own sense of identity and steps into increased responsibilities.

One of the surprising moments of bonding we had happened last summer when I asked her if she’d like to volunteer at The Lab—RTB’s three-day mentoring program designed for students who have a vision to pursue a career in science, engineering, or medical research. I recruited her to help me record some lectures; but, in the process, we had a very meaningful shared experience—rare for this season in her life.

During the course of The Lab, I noticed that many of the other parents felt a similar connection to their son or daughter. Unexpectedly, many of the parents expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share such a transformational experience with their child during a season of life when typically their time together is quite limited.

Building on these insights, here are a few ways parents can transition into the role of life coach and supporter as their child heads off to college. Students who are considering a future career in science have a challenging road ahead of them, but having parents who are equipped to support their efforts can make a big difference in helping the child succeed with their faith intact.

Three Practical Ways Parents Can Support Their Science-Minded Students

1. Share in their interests.

Parents don’t need to be well-versed in differential equations or Newton’s second law to take an interest in their student’s pursuits. There are other simple ways to be involved; for example, on the next family vacation (preferably when your college student returns home for the summer) why not stop at a science museum, observatory, or national park? When at home, would it be viable to create some space in the garage or a backyard shed for your student to experiment or build? Do they have a quiet, adequate place to read and study? Take their hobbies seriously and invest in their interests. It may seem trivial now but these small acts may one day help your student discover the next breakthrough in science, thereby bettering the world.

2. Help them find an on-campus Christian group or mentor.

It can be frightening to watch your child go off to college, out of your protection and control. So many questions cause worry: “Will she be safe? Will he be able to navigate the complex adult world?” And if you’ve heard the stereotypes about Christians in secular universities, another concern might be this: “Will they lose their faith?” As RTB astrophysicist Jeff Zweerink puts it, Christians are needed in secular universities and they should be at the forefront of scientific experimentations and discoveries. Even if Christian students are surrounded by agnostics, atheists, and moral relativists, they can still find other believers with whom to fellowship. Most campuses have Christian clubs, and with a little networking, it might be easier than you think to locate someone to mentor your child through their educational and spiritual journey in college.

3. Attend The Lab this summer.

This year, The Lab will offer more sessions that will equip parents with practical ways to support their student’s scientific pursuits. We’ll go in depth on what it takes to find an on-campus or local Christian mentor, get connected with a university Christian group, stay connected with resources at Reasons to Believe, and more. We want to not only help students catch a vision for their future, but also help parents be a partner in that effort. One of the most important things we want parents to learn is that they don’t need to know as much about science as their child. Primarily they need to know their child and then learn how to help them connect with other supportive voices. We hope you’ll consider joining us at The Lab. Students can apply by visiting the website at reasons.org/thelab.

Science Illuminates The Faith; Doesn’t Oppose

By Will Myers

The Secular Humanist has hijacked science as being part of their beliefs solely and has proclaimed that the scientific method of proving what is true is the only acceptable truths. The truth is that God created all truths mentally and physically by the design of the humans and the physical universe. We are preordained to commune with God in His Kingdom by each person learning enough to get a glimpse of our Savior, the Son of God Who has God’s Holy Spirit giving a person the ability to be born again.

The problem is that Secular Humanist puts scientific knowledge ahead of the faith rather than subjecting it to the word of God. The spiritual world is possibilities denoted by probabilities as accurately as possible such as the person appears to be possibly mean therefore there is a good chance that he probably will attack. Probably is given a value by “good chance” liken unto there is a 50% chance that he will attack. Our mind calculates these probabilities on a quantum mechanical level. This establishes our emotions and feelings about any subject or object. God has already determined what our decisions is going to be given specific condition even if they are bad. The alpha (beginning) and omega (end) is determined by God our Creator; we move and live during the interim varying from nanoseconds to begin and end to the cosmic time clock beginning and ending; liken unto a reaction to an action and its consequences.

If the values of the four universal physical forces of electro-magnetic, weak nuclear, strong nuclear, and gravity changes by .oooo1 of a unit, than we would have never existed. The size of the moon and the earth has the correct size allowing the earth to become inhabited. Had their mass varied slightly then we would not have existed. In Psalm 19:1; “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork” reveals the metaphysics of creation. Discoveries in science always illuminate our faith because it is like a schoolmaster teaching us of God’s Holy Spirit working as the Spirit of Truth proceeding from the world.

My favorite metaphysical scripture is Romans 1:20; “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” The passage clearly states that all things that are found to exist are speaking of our relationship with God our Creator and is illuminating our faith. The life of the Son of God, the WORD, is the completion of the laws (in science) whether physical or spiritual. All belongs to God and the secular humanist can not steal anything nor can the Darwinian Evolutionist.

Authority Given To Man By God

By Will Myers

God has designed all creation and placed His perfect Righteousness in it giving the perfect order to all things. God says to humans that they can subdue the earth and populate earth fully. Man have the right to name all things (sexuality, unity formed by a name). A man is a free moral agent given the right to choose for self by the design of God. We live and learn from what has been designed by God. We accrue knowledge and the collection could be called a toyspace because we are learning from what God has created already; the master design. In Ecclesiastes 3:15; That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.” It is obvious that the passage is referring to the cyclic nature of the universe but it is also referring to the fundamental nature of human thought and reasoning. The scripture also is reflecting the nature of a universal. The Son of God existed when the world was created and exist now; The Son of God, Jesus, is going to return but has already been for He is the universal life with God’s perfect righteousness.

In Isaiah 28:16; Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste” (Zion means “in the essence of things”) states emphatically that God has placed His perfection in all of the creation which gives perfect order to all things because God is always perfect and demands perfection; even chaos to humans obeys God’s perfect order. It appears that we must learn of life by going backwards, reviewing, and we must live our life by going forward (nexus). The nexus is always in the future; therefore, our minds live in the future even when we review our lives.

We are imposing on God and God is gently imposing on us in this discipline that we live (UspVsp=Q). In John 1:1; “In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God” states that our Savior existed in the mind of God as the Son of God before all of the creation in the beginning, and God created the world through and for His Son; His Son is the pattern (UspVsp). Upon us receiving the Son Jesus we have been given His authority for each of us to become as He is; we have the authority to become sons of God and subdue all of the creation. God’s great imposition on humans and our imposing on God confirms His Son and His anointed powers  (Romans 1:20;” For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” All that which opposes God’s ways is condemned and all that obeys God’s ways, righteousness, is rewarded.

Intelligent Design And Biblical Scripture

By Will Myers

From a scientific perspective, some foundational biblical scriptures usually can be represented mathematically without any ambiguities. This would represent the foundation that God laid at the time of creation. In Isaiah 28:16; Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believeth (in Him) shall not make haste” we learn that God placed His Righteousness in the essence of all things which Is His foundation for Creation (Zion means in Hebrew “in the essence of things”). The stone of Isaiah 28:16 represents His Son Jesus to materialize later. Upon God placing His Perfect Righteousness (Jesus concealed) in all the creation we have the perfect order in all things. Since God is perfect, everything that God does is perfect forever continuously. So, we have perfect continuity, and this allows for a mathematical interpretation; especially, the foundational prescription. A mathematical representation eliminates any ambiguities among many opinions, and the mind can grasp the vast size of God’s Righteousness giving the perfect order to all things by a simple math vehicle. From this comes the knowledge that has been partly accessed by humans. Science, philosophy, and mathematics are the results of God giving the perfect order to all that He created. The only end to these endeavors is God’s intervention.

In Romans 1:20; “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” Paul lets us know that we can perceive God’s laws by His establishments (His natural constructions); His nature and power have shown by what we see in the natural world. Therefore, we can expect our Savior from God Who came as His Son Jesus. Our minds exist in a state of possibilities with varying degrees of expectation values that influence our thoughts and reasoning. Our mind obeys the laws of God or opposes the laws of God.

Let us prescribe an expression that symbolically represent the foundation of creation:  (Uspace) times (Vspace) = Q(q), the law of God with minor cases of q’s…with the law starting with one particle to complex systems. Of course, complex physical laws developed before spiritual laws. You might say that this is more complicated than the scriptures, and scriptures are complicated enough. I say that if you learn two math expressions than it becomes a simple key to interpreting all scriptures with maybe only a few exceptions that you can count on one hand.

As I have stated in previous articles, Uspace (Usp) is the perfect righteousness of God placed in the essence of all things giving the perfect order to all in existence. This is very compelling bending all thoughts and reasons to His way and truth. Another reason, Vspace (Vsp) is the potential of all nexus in the natural world. The natural world is in constant flux without ceasing. Everything is coming into being and going out of being. Everything is imposing on each person and every person is imposing on God with God gently imposing on each human; body, soul, and spirit. Humans have learned to manipulate matter and energy alone with learning about ourselves. This happened through the process of observations and experimentations. This leads us to the second formulation: UspVsp[summation of A(x) + summation of B(y)]=Q(q) with q being q(x) and q(y). This equation can be called the Observation Equation representing humans observations and analysis; the development of knowledge: science and technology plus all other disciplines including routine information for daily activities. I know, everything is becoming complicated but the number of elements to learn are very small as compared to the books of life or all philosophies in the world. Now, let’s define Q as being the laws of God, physical and spiritual. The Q can be a particle that is observed or the results of an experiment even if it’s throwing an egg against a hot brick wall and observing the results. The results is due to God’s physical laws. Recently, scientists have been slamming atoms together to get strange particles in an attempt to understand God’s laws which is one law, Q; His perfect righteousness giving the perfect order to all things in existence.

Now, let’s define Q as being the laws of God, physical and spiritual. The Q can be a particle that is observed or the results of an experiment even if it’s throwing an egg against a hot brick wall and observing the results. The results are due to God’s physical laws. Recently, scientists have been slamming atoms together to get strange particles in an attempt to understand God’s laws which are one law, Q; His perfect righteousness giving the perfect order to all things in existence.

We have our Existence Equation, UspVsp=Q, and we have our Observer Equation, UspVsp[sum: A(x) + sum:B(y)] = Q(q). The Existence Equation simply says that God has determined the results of all experiments of humans and all reactions to human actions and that everything is imposing on each other. God has made his physical laws to be absolutes and they are immutable. Humans simply have to learn them and not break any of them, than the laws shall serve us.

God’s spiritual laws which are really One Who is God’s presence are absolute but humans have difficult with them due to desiring self-power and does evil things to have power. Spiritual laws as seen by humans have a lot to do with expectations constituted by possibilities and probable outcomes. Some intellectuals say that every thought has a material foundation contradicting the receiving from God’s pure Spirit of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit from above. Even Romans 1:20 from above text implies such. The resolve is that God’s Holy Spirit speaks to every thought in your mind at once; God acts on our mind as one entity in one instant even  though we have fragmented thoughts and stored probability values in our mind. This act by God supersedes matter founded thoughts; by such act of God we know it was God from above and His Son Who is from above.

Our Existence Equation of UspVsp=Q holds form for humans. God just spoke to our knowledge q (laws) at once as if all was one unified entity, Q. Now, we see that our Observer Equation hold true to form: UspVsp[sum:A(x) + sum:B(y)] = Q(q). All elements are imposing (multiplying) on each other as in our lives, mentally and physically. Our minds are never stuck on one thing A(x), but compares to B(y) with x and y being previous characteristics or ideas awaiting another aspect or decision about B or A. The comparison of A and B gives q, a new law or concept, UspVsp continues to impress higher concepts into the mind leading to Q, the wholeness of all laws, then we can recognize the Son of God.

Now, it’s Jesus time! Why Jesus if God placed all that we need in  creation at that time? It’s because man is imperfect, and imperfectness creates imperfect things; corruption breeds corruption. Humans need a perfect Savior because God requires perfection. Therefore, Jesus gives all of the perfect q’s (spiritual laws or teaching which are laws) that sum to Q, and fulfills the Law of God, Q, Who is Jesus.

All things in existence came from the mind of God. What humans has made as the children of God has followed rules placed in the creation of all things. God has designed the physical universe and humans, mentally and physically. So, how much credit should each human get? Are we just pawns in the total scheme of things? No,  we are the children of God working to return unto the Kingdom of God. God gives full credit and rewards for our partially good works; all we have to do is give our best; try our hardest. When we come into the Kingdom led by Christ Jesus we shall receive from God joy forever without ceasing. Now we work for the prize.

God Is Love; The Completion Of The Law

By Will Myers

God expressed His Love through His Son, Jesus. In John 3:16; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” In sending His Son, God gave us a pattern to live by daily. When God sent His Son this was and is the wholeness of all laws. Any law or every law is fulfilled by the true acts of love. If doing so, then we have no need for the law; although, true love of the Father brings each person into the presence of God, our Creator in which we receive eternal life. God expresses His love for each of us even before we are perfect. God’s eternal life is inputted by God as a very nutritional and tasty food; a taste of eternal life. Jesus expressed this when He told one of His disciples that He had food from the Father that only He could feast on the food.

The Mind of Christ is determined by God and was determined at creation and all of the creation was speaking of His Mind; the Laws. The works of God is expressed in John 6:29; “Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Whom He sent was and is the embodiment of the Holy Spirit; His Son, Jesus Christ. Every word spoken by Jesus was and is part of God’s law. All promises of God in His law shall materialize.

All promises of God in law shall materialize even when He created Adam and Eve in the paradise garden to be a paradise forever with Adam and Eve to live forever. Satan lies shall not stop God’s intentions. Nothing stops God! Jesus was sent to bring the paradise back to man; His Kingdom to come again. Based on biblical scripture, all chosen souls shall be brought back again to live forever on a New Earth. This is God’s act of Love and the fulfillment of God’s Law. (UspVsp=Q, God’s equation)

Romans 13:9-10

New International Version

The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
