It wasnt the first time and, sadly, Im sure it wont be the last.
After publishing Navigating Genesis, I anticipated criticism, of course. Often Ive benefitted from criticism, and I know I always will. What saddened me this time was the very personal and public criticism that came from the leader of another Christian ministry.
How can we ask nonbelievers to dialogue with us if we cannot graciously dialogue with one another?
The article I wrote on this problem was read and shared by more than 30,000 people. While reading many encouraging notes, I saw a deep hunger for the kind of respectful, engaging ministry you support through your prayers and gifts to Reasons to Believe.
Thats why Im passionate about growing this ministry. We must respond to that hunger with an ongoing supply of new resources to help people understand Gods Word and His world.
Our growth depends on what happens in the next few weeks, as our fiscal year comes to a close. To end the year with all of our current outreach plans funded and ready to grow, well need to raise $646,591 by June 30. Otherwise, well need to make tough decisions about what we cannot pursue in the year ahead.
Thats not much time, but Im confident we can reach this goal if every friend who receives this letter will do what he or she can. As the Lord leads you, will you give generously today?
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:20, We are therefore Christs ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. Through your gifts, you are an ambassador of peace and reconciliation in the crucial field of science apologetics for evangelism.
- You are an ambassador, first, to those who do not know Christ. During the past six months, our scholars have addressed students and faculty at seven major universities (not to mention the Christian campuses). Eagerness to see how science and Scripture connect shows up in the intense Q&A sessions that follow these events. We pray that the young people we speak with will continue to seek truth and find it in Christ.
- You are an ambassador to your fellow believers, too. Four years ago, we asked God to allow us a voice at the National Conference for Christian Apologetics, sponsored by Southern Evangelical Seminary. Today, were considered one of the annual events most valued participants!
- You help others become ambassadors themselves. RTB is a ministry of multiplication. Thanks to you, we produce resources that build up believers faith, equipping you and fellow Christians toshare what you believe with conviction and with love. Your impact goes on and on!
I am thankful every day that you have joined Reasons to Believe on this ministry adventure. I am also thankful that you share the commitment to reconciliation and honest, loving dialogue.

Support RTB

Mark Ritter discovered RTB in the early ’90s at the start of his teaching career, and it changed his life. “I was able to see—at last—that my two passions, faith and science, are not in battle with each other.” Mark constantly seeks new opportunities to be an ambassador, and some of his students are following his lead. One young man, Cameron, was inspired to become a youth pastor in order to help more teens understand that Gods revelations in Scripture and nature go hand in hand!
Would you considerpartnering with usfinancially so teachers and youth pastors like Mark and Cameron can influence the next generation? Every gift matters as we seek to reach the $646,591 goal by June 30!
