We are incarcerating our youths at a rate which is the highest of all nations. Our legal systems continues this harmful procedures even when they know that it is not working to stop illegal drugs. What the legal system is doing are creating corporations based on the pool of laborers; now a huge labor force.
The long term sentences has become counter productive. As a matter of fact, it is causing the increase of illegal drugs by providing opportunities for other civilians to step in and take the place of the incarcerated ones who continues to promote the distribution of drugs. The number is almost unlimited. Should the legal system continue it’s futile and hurtful efforts? We are truly at a point in time that the felony prosecution of drug dealers and users is doing more damage to our society than if sentences were reduced to misdemeanors.
