Let’s get one thing straight right now. You were not chosen because something is wrong with you. You were chosen because something is very, very wrong with them. They spend a lot of energy to confuse you and prevent you from seeing that clearly. Making sure the questions you ask when you can’t sleep at night are more like what did I do instead of what kind of predator operates this way and why and how. They engineer that inversion — that flipping of the question. It’s the whole game. Keep us looking in so we never look out long enough to see their same pattern.
These operations don’t land on people at random. There is no cosmic bad luck that drops coordinated harassment into someone’s life. This is selection and assessment and a calculated read of a person’s situation beforrrrre the firrrrrst move is everrrrr made. What they look for isn’t weakness the way you might think. They’re not looking for someone pathetic. They’re looking for someone exposed.
Here’s what exposed looks like to a predator running this operation: No local family. Nobody who shows up unannounced and notices things. Nobody who asks hard questions to the right people on your behalf because they love you and they’re standing right there. Housing instability. A tenant who needs their housing up to code when a housing corporation is hiding building defects. A tenant who needs their apartment safer and healthier than the landlord cares for it to be. Someone who can be pressured through the roof over their head. Someone whose complaints can be quietly buried because the power differential is already built into the lease. A report filed somewhere. A complaint against a landlord. A fraud report. A call to a housing authority. An official record that can be reframed as a pattern of being difficult, litigious, unstable.
You tried to use the system correctly and they turned that into your profile. Single. Female. Without institutional backing. Without a bulldog lawyer on speed dial or a connected family member who makes phone calls that get returned. Someone who will be believed last in any room where competing narratives are being presented. Already vulnerable in a way that might make the paranoid label stick faster. Anyone already carrying a history that makes people hesitate before believing you. Already operating in systems — housing, healthcare, social services — where your word carries less automatic weight than the word of the person in the office across from you. You see what they were actually doing?
They were running a risk assessment. Like any predator worth their cowardice, they were calculating how much they could take and how little accountability they’d face doing it. They were looking for the highest yield lowest risk target they could find. And they found you not because you’re broken but because you were in a position that their sick calculus said was safe to exploit. That’s not a reflection of your worth. That’s a reflection of their method. And their method is the method of cowards.
They never choose: someone with money and loud family and rock solid institutional connections and documented proof already in someone powerful’s hands. They don’t walk into those situations. They avoid them like whores avoid church. They choose the situation where they think there’s no one watching. Where they think the target can be discredited quickly and quietly and the whole thing goes away on their timeline. What they always miscalculate is the our capacity to learn. To adapt. To get ferociously organized in the dark when our power is off at the breaker to get a break from their frequencies. When there’s nothing left to lose. To find other targets and compare notes and recognize the template. To become exactly the kind of documented, vocal, connected threat they were specifically trying to avoid creating.
Funny. The same criteria that made you look safe to target are the same conditions that make survivors of this kind of abuse some of the most determined, meticulous, and credible witnesses imaginable. People who had to learn forensics from scratch because nobody was coming to help. People who documented everything because their sanity depended on it. People who can’t afford to be sloppy because they have no safety net to catch them if they are.
We didn’t get chosen because we were an easy mark. We got chosen because someone made a catastrophic assumption about who they were dealing with. If you’re reading this then you’re still here and still targeted but you can still document. We can still find ways to connect for survival. I don’t want to post cringe repetition about the obvious but we need to connect and we need support.
There are only so many ways to do this: WE NEED A SAFETY HOTLINE FOR TIs. WE NEED GROUP CHATS FOR TIs. WE NEED A BUDDY SYSTEM — AND A GROUP SYSTEM. WE NEED A PLATFORM FOR INFORMATION SHARING FOR PRESERVATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY AND FOR SAFETY AND SUPPORT.
HOW DO WE TRUST? HOW DO WE SCREEN FOR PERPS? WE HAVE TO DO MORE THAN TALK ABOUT IT. NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNTIL WE FIND WAYS TO CONNECT LIKE THIS AND COMPARE NOTES AND WORK TOGETHER AND FIND WAYS TO PREVENT SABOTAGE.
