Sociopaths have primal emotions but haven’t learned the social nuances of how to display emotions appropriately, so they either don’t bother with it or they try to mimic what they see others around them doing. I’ve seen both in President Trump. One thing I do feel pity for the man is his upbringing – I don’t think his was a loving or a nurturing home life as a kid at all.
You are correct, I just got what she diagnosed him with mixed up. I recently watched a two part discussion with her and was very impressed with how clear she was about him. She didn’t pull any punches, and was not afraid to admit, that there were things the interviewer asked, that she never saw.
She did say that his father was not a good role model, but gave him far more attention, than any of his siblings. I found it interesting that she referred to him as Donald, never Uncle.
There was no malice in anything she said, it was all very clinical, which goes to her ethics. I’ve been meaning to read her book, as I’m sure it will be a very interesting read.

From what I have read, Mary has every reason to be soured by her families behaviour. However having also listened to her on pod casts, I found her to be very frank, open and non-combatant towards her family. But she is also under no disillusionment of who they are and why they are. Her view is refreshing and doesn’t devolve into accusatory comments of any kind. On the contrary she comes across as being very honest and truthful.
